Mentoring 

Mentorship is another way for you to get involved with TEXAAN and give back to the organization and to other professionals within the membership. A mentorship establishes a professional relationship in which a mentor develops specific skills and knowledge that will enhance the mentees professional and personal growth.

Requirements

  • At the time of application, must have been a member of TEXAAN for at least one year and be a current member.
  • Must agree to a one-year obligation as a Mentor.
  • Must be either a current or past TEXAAN Leader. This can be at any level; in an elected or appointed position (chair of a committee, executive board, Region Chair).
  • Must be willing to provide guidance and support for mentee
  • Must agree to provide feedback on Mentor's progress reports.
  • Must be willing and able to attend online meetings in the Zoom environment prior to the program period beginning to become acquainted with potential mentee(s).
  • The Mentor and Mentee will determine the method of communication that will work best for their situation over the one years of their work together following their pairing at Annual Conference.
  • Must agree to conduct evaluation of Mentoring program at the end of the year and report those evaluations to TEXAAN.

  • Access the Online Application, which will be available July 15 -September 15, 2020 for the 2020-2021 Class. 
  • Enter the information as it is requested.  
  • When ready, don't forget to hit the SUBMIT button!
  • Contact TEXAAN at programs@texaan.org if you do not receive an e-mail confirming receipt of your nomination after you have completed the online submission process.

    Requirements

        • At the time of application, must become a member of TEXAAN.
        • Must agree to a one-year obligation with Mentor, (which includes preparatory assignments over the summer prior to the Mentee - Mentor pairing, which takes place in February and begins the 1-year official mentorship period).
        • Must be able to articulate goals for increasing involvement in TEXAAN leadership and how taking part in the program will support those goals.
        • Must be willing and able to attend online meetings in the Zoom environment during the summer prior to the program period beginning to become acquainted with potential mentors.
        • Must agree to take part in personal and program evaluation and assessment.

    TEXAAN serves as a professional representation of academic advising in Texas by providing professional development, networking, recognition, and dissemination of information. Our goals are to (1) establish a communication network for academic advisors at institutions of higher education in Texas, (2) assist with the implementation of professional standards as defined by NACADA core values of Academic Advising, (3) serve as the liaison for Texas professional, governing, and education agencies, (4) maintain active affiliation with NACADA both regionally and nationally, and (5) offer an annual conference for Texas academic advisors, counselors, and higher education professionals.
