2021-2022 Elections
Casey Schumacher - Texas A&M University President - Elect |
Thank you for considering me as a candidate for TEXAAN President Elec. If I am elected as President Elect my goals would be to continue the efforts to increase membership and the Mentorship program and see that come to fruition. In regard to new initiatives, I would like to increase Region presence, have more “drive-ins”. Over this past year, we have learned about virtual capabilities, thus virtual drive-ins would be a great opportunity for Regions to garner professional development, through an inexpensive outlet. I would also like to create a contacts directory for each institution within the state. I feel that this will assist TEXAAN leadership, Region Chairs, and increase individual campuses to help spread information, share job opportunities, and more. I have been a member of TEXAAN for over five years, I was a Region Chair for Central Region for three years, I served as Sponsorship Committee Chair on the TEXAAN Annual Conference for the 2018 Houston Conference, and last year I was Conference Chair for the 2020 Conference in South Padre- which had the most attendees. I have also held positions with Texas A&M University Advisors and Counselors, several committee chair positions for various small functions, was elected to Vice President of Programs in 2017 (held position through 2019), and then was asked to step in as Interim VP of Programs in June 2020 for the 2020-2021 year. Through my various capacities within TEXAAN, I feel that I am a great fit to become the next President Elect of TEXAAN.

Christina Presley - Texas A&M University Secretary | My name is Christina Presley and I am running for the office of Secretary within the TEXAAN organization. I currently work at Texas A&M University in College Station as an Academic Advisor II. I started my career at A&M in May-2014 as a Financial Aid Advisor before moving to my current position in Academic Advising in September-2018. |
Tiffany Kelly - University of North Texas Vice President of Technology | This would be an excellent opportunity to expand my professional network in Texas and continue engaging in the professional advising field as I did in Wisconsin over the past 7 years prior to relocating to Texas. |
Sarah Ramos Region Chair - South Region | My goals for this position are to provide innovative ways of thinking, working and connecting with colleagues as well as students. South Texas has and continues to face many challenges- such as the cultural and traditional issues that might push students away from pursuing a higher education, slow improvements on mental health, and even some fear of stepping out of our own comfort zones. While these issues may not impact us as professionals, our students deserve the best from our South Texas members regardless of what the social expectation or norms are held over their heads by society. I would like to move forward with my goal to help improve these issues within our students, and I believe that advisors have the front line to do this and help retain more students. Members should vote for me because I believe that by thinking outside of the box and stepping outside our comfort zones, new and big achievements can be accomplished that can be of the benefit of ourselves and our institutions. |
Melissa Banks - Brazosport College Region Chair Elect - Southeast Region | Education is my passion! I am in my seventh year of working in higher education in an advising setting. I am currently the Student Development Advisor at Brazosport College. If chosen as the Region Chair Elect for the Southeast Region, I would work on fulfilling TEXAAN's mission of providing professional development and networking opportunities to the members in our region. Professional development opportunities will include the coordination and facilitation of TEXAAN drive-ins (one day events) and webinars. Networking opportunities can also be coordinated to allow members to visit with other advising professionals, build professional relationships, gain fresh ideas, and foster growth through a strong network. |
Katelyn Childress - Stephen F. Austin State University Region Chair Elect - East Region | Hello! My name is Kate Childress, from Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) and I am running for the Region Chair-Elect position for the East Region. Some goals that I have while in this position is to connect members in East Texas across institutions, communicate information to East Region TEXAAN Members, and foster conversations about student success. Representing the East Region as the Region Chair-Elect would be an honor and it would be a privilege to give back to the TEXAAN Community. Thank you for your consideration! |
