Officers

Below, you will find descriptions of the TEXAAN officer positions. To view individuals who held offices, please select your desired membership year.


President

  1. Preside at all TEXAAN meetings.
  2. Responsible for overseeing all the association's activities.
  3. Call special meetings of the TEXAAN Board and serve as an ex-officio member of all standing and ad hoc committees.
  4. Oversee and coordinate the election process with the help of the Secretary.
  5. Appoint interim officers in the event an officer cannot complete his or her term (except in the case of president).
  6. If the President cannot complete his or her term, the President-Elect shall assume the duties for the remainder of the term. The President-Elect will also serve their elected term.
  7. Serves a term of one election cycle. Becomes Immediate Past President after serving one election cycle. 
President-Elect
  1. Chief assistant to the President.
  2. Make all arrangements for the subsequent year's meetings in conjunction with Vice President for Programs and Program Committee.
  3. Assume the duties of the President in the absence of the President and when so acting shall exercise the powers of the President.
  4. Serves a term of one election cycle. Becomes President after serving as President Elect for one election cycle.

Immediate Past President

  1. Shall serve as advisor to the President and TEXAAN Board.
  2. He or she shall hold this position for one year after the completion of his or her term as President.
  3. Shall assist the President-Elect and the Vice President for Programs in the selection process for the future annual conference(s).
  4. Serves a term of one election cycle.

Vice President for Programs

  1. Assist the President-Elect in making arrangements for the next year's meetings.
  2. Serve as the chair of the Program Committee.
  3. Serves a term of two election cycles and is elected in odd numbered years.

Vice President for Membership/Treasurer

  1. Collaborate with the Vice President for Publications to encourage members to renew membership and recruit new members.
  2. Maintain current membership roster and make available to the board when requested.
  3. Serve as Chair of the Membership Committee.
  4. Produce an annual financial report for distribution at the annual business meeting and upon request of President or President-Elect.
  5. Collect and deposit annual membership dues and conference fees.
  6. Serves a term of two election cycles and is elected in even numbered years.

Vice President for Publications

  1. Solicit contributions for association publication, “TEXAAN”.
  2. Prepare and distribute “TEXAAN” annually following the state conference and no later than May 1.
  3. Collaborate with the Vice President for Membership/Treasurer to maintain an electronic distribution list of paid members and potential members.
  4. Periodically and as requested by board members distribute via electronic distribution information relevant to the organization and/or the academic advising profession.
  5. Submit an article about TEXAAN to a NACADA regional or national publication on a periodic basis but no less than one time annually.
  6. Collaborate with the conference chairs to publicize any conference information or activities via electronic distribution or website.
  7. Serves a term of two election cycles and is elected in even numbered years.

Vice President for Technology

  1. Maintain current TEXAAN web address and keep it up-to-date.
  2. Collaborate with officers to publish information to the web in a timely manner.
  3. Collaborate with the conference chair and board members to publish conference information, newsletters, awards and scholarships winners, and historical documents to the web in a timely manner.
  4. Serves a term of two election cycles and is elected in odd numbered years.

Secretary

  1. Keep records of all meetings of the association and the TEXAAN Board.
  2. Collect information/documents/pictures from the inception of the organization to current date.
  3. Track all awards and scholarships presented to members.
  4. Maintain a current copy of the TEXAAN constitution.
  5. Give notice to all members of regular and special meetings.
  6. Assist the President in facilitating the election process.
  7. Serves a term of two election cycles and is elected in odd numbered years.

NACADA State Liaison 

  1. Serve as the liaison between the TEXAAN Board and National Academic Advising Association (NACADA).  
  2. Attend NACADA Regional Conference as the state representative and leads the Texas Meeting.
  3. Maintain TEXAAN Allied Membership.
  4. Serves on the NACADA Region Steering Committee
  5. Serves a term of one election cycle and is appointed annually by the board.
