Below, you will find descriptions of the TEXAAN officer positions. To view individuals who held offices, please select your desired membership year. President- Preside at all TEXAAN meetings.
- Responsible for overseeing all the association's activities.
- Call special meetings of the TEXAAN Board and serve as an ex-officio member of all standing and ad hoc committees.
- Oversee and coordinate the election process with the help of the Secretary.
- Appoint interim officers in the event an officer cannot complete his or her term (except in the case of president).
- If the President cannot complete his or her term, the President-Elect shall assume the duties for the remainder of the term. The President-Elect will also serve their elected term.
- Serves a term of one election cycle. Becomes Immediate Past President after serving one election cycle.
President-Elect- Chief assistant to the President.
- Make all arrangements for the subsequent year's meetings in conjunction with Vice President for Programs and Program Committee.
- Assume the duties of the President in the absence of the President and when so acting shall exercise the powers of the President.
- Serves a term of one election cycle. Becomes President after serving as President Elect for one election cycle.
Immediate Past President- Shall serve as advisor to the President and TEXAAN Board.
- He or she shall hold this position for one year after the completion of his or her term as President.
- Shall assist the President-Elect and the Vice President for Programs in the selection process for the future annual conference(s).
- Serves a term of one election cycle.
Vice President for Programs- Assist the President-Elect in making arrangements for the next year's meetings.
- Serve as the chair of the Program Committee.
- Serves a term of two election cycles and is elected in odd numbered years.
Vice President for Membership/Treasurer- Collaborate with the Vice President for Publications to encourage members to renew membership and recruit new members.
- Maintain current membership roster and make available to the board when requested.
- Serve as Chair of the Membership Committee.
- Produce an annual financial report for distribution at the annual business meeting and upon request of President or President-Elect.
- Collect and deposit annual membership dues and conference fees.
- Serves a term of two election cycles and is elected in even numbered years.
Vice President for Publications- Solicit contributions for association publication, “TEXAAN”.
- Prepare and distribute “TEXAAN” annually following the state conference and no later than May 1.
- Collaborate with the Vice President for Membership/Treasurer to maintain an electronic distribution list of paid members and potential members.
- Periodically and as requested by board members distribute via electronic distribution information relevant to the organization and/or the academic advising profession.
- Submit an article about TEXAAN to a NACADA regional or national publication on a periodic basis but no less than one time annually.
- Collaborate with the conference chairs to publicize any conference information or activities via electronic distribution or website.
- Serves a term of two election cycles and is elected in even numbered years.
Vice President for Technology- Maintain current TEXAAN web address and keep it up-to-date.
- Collaborate with officers to publish information to the web in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with the conference chair and board members to publish conference information, newsletters, awards and scholarships winners, and historical documents to the web in a timely manner.
- Serves a term of two election cycles and is elected in odd numbered years.
Secretary- Keep records of all meetings of the association and the TEXAAN Board.
- Collect information/documents/pictures from the inception of the organization to current date.
- Track all awards and scholarships presented to members.
- Maintain a current copy of the TEXAAN constitution.
- Give notice to all members of regular and special meetings.
- Assist the President in facilitating the election process.
- Serves a term of two election cycles and is elected in odd numbered years.
NACADA State Liaison - Serve as the liaison between the TEXAAN Board and National Academic Advising Association (NACADA).
- Attend NACADA Regional Conference as the state representative and leads the Texas Meeting.
- Maintain TEXAAN Allied Membership.
- Serves on the NACADA Region Steering Committee
- Serves a term of one election cycle and is appointed annually by the board.
